Sky wave propagation involves radio waves (typically in the frequency range of 3 MHz to 30 MHz) that are directed towards the sky and reflected back to Earth by the ionosphere. The ionosphere consists of stratified layers of ionized gases at high altitudes. This mode of propagation enables 'over-the-horizon' or long-distance communication as the waves 'skip' between the ionosphere and the Earth's surface.
